AECHS School Spirit

            If you’ve ever been at a school-sponsored event and thought it was boring or lame, chances are that it’s lacking school spirit. School spirit is the strong emotional connection with a school that commonly involves participation and enthusiasm at school events. It’s foolish to pre-determine in your mind that a school event is “lame” and wonder why you aren’t having any fun. Giving the event a chance and attempting to be enthusiastic about it is what will make it fun, not only for you but for everyone involved. Championing school spirit will make school-sponsored events more fun, create a positive learning environment, and make the school a safe space for students.

            Most importantly, compared to any regular high school, school spirit is expressed as the value of what they stand for. Unlike others, some schools are either private or contain a small population where they stay hidden. School spirit channels the comfort and availability in every one where they can create memories, engagement, and support. According to the Connecticut Association of Schools, “91% of students are more confident, 90% are more likely to be leaders, and 87% more active in their community if they participate in any factor of school spirit.” Not to mention, school spirit enhances a student's pride academically and socially. This makes the school a more enjoyable place to be surrounded by.

           Furthermore, school spirit doesn't have to pertain to repping school merch or stating how proud they are of the school. For instance, setting up flyers or volunteering around the school can exemplify an individual's school spirit. Because of the expectations implemented, the character development created within the community of the school shows what type of spirit there will be. It also increases the association and communication between staff and students. Students should be able to feel as if they are at home and have a sense of belongingness. School spirit fosters and channels that sense of belonging among students and faculty where individuals feel connected as a whole. Significantly, school spirit is so much more than pride. The simplest form of actions from students builds their character, school image, and future. It sets them to a place where they can later learn, lead, and grow.

           Evidently enough, school spirit makes school events more fun, yet brings a sense of bonding. School spirit is essential for fostering bonds within the school community and shaping the character and reputation of the school. Showing the values, pride, unity, and enthusiasm that extend far beyond the classroom.
